Lindsey had never been on an overseas mission trip. Despite reservations, she answered God’s call to temporarily forfeit the comforts of home and travel to a hard place in Africa. When she arrived, God emboldened her to speak TRUTH in the schools and villages we served.
That’s how she met Emma, a little boy with special needs who lived in the community but lacked community. They couldn’t speak each other’s languages, but a unique relationship sparked when Lindsey noticed through sign-language that he wanted a soccer ball. She gave voice to his voiceless actions and he got a soccer ball. He instantly gained community as many other boys in the village wanted to be friends with this somehow forgotten boy.
This has built a unique door for the Gospel to be shared in Emma’s family. Every time we visit, there is a precious appreciation and love as we chat and pray with the family members that gather. It’s an unsaid tradition, but occasionally Emma gets a ball or 2 from Lindsey, and the smile on his face and joy it brings Lindsey is just priceless. All of this started from being obedient to the Great Commission.
— And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
